Search for ATV tours in Cusco and you’ll see prices that seem to make no sense: one listing at $25, another at $110 for what looks like the same ride. Usually neither is a scam. They’re different products, and the difference only shows up at the entrance gate or when you’re handed the keys. This ATV tour Cusco price guide sets out what we charge on each of our four routes, what that price includes, what you pay separately on the day, and what to check before you compare us with anyone else.

What every tour includes
Whichever route you pick, the price covers:
- hotel pickup in Cusco and drop-off afterwards
- the ATV
- helmet and gloves
- a safety briefing and a practice run on flat ground before the real ride
- a guide, with one guide for every 8 riders at most
On every route you decide at the base whether each person drives their own ATV or rides as a passenger. The minimum age to drive is 15.
What each price includes, route by route
Maras, Moray & Salt Mines: $38
Half a day through farmland at around 3,385 m, with stops at the circular Inca terraces of Moray and the Maras salt pools. Entrance fees aren’t included: Moray needs the Cusco Tourist Ticket and the Salt Mines charge around S/20.
Huaypo Lagoon: $35
Our most relaxed route, through fields to a lake with snow peaks behind it. The community at the lagoon charges a small entrance, about S/3–5. Kayak rental is available at the lake if you want it, paid there. On a private tour, you can add the Salt Mines.
Morada de los Dioses: about $25
The shortest outing, with 45–90 minutes of riding to the giant stone sculptures. This is the one route where the entrance is already included, so you pay nothing at the gate. Shared departures run at 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Rainbow Mountain: $80
A pre-dawn start and a full day: drive to the high plains, ride most of the way, then walk the last 1–2 km to the viewpoint at over 5,000 m. Breakfast and lunch are included, and the guide carries oxygen and a first-aid kit. The community entrance (about S/25) is paid separately, plus extra if you add the Red Valley.

What you’ll pay on the day
Bring soles in cash, in small notes. Card machines at the sites are rare and often don’t work.
| Extra | Approximate cost | Which route |
|---|---|---|
| Cusco Tourist Ticket (partial or full) | S/70 or S/130 | Maras Moray, for Moray |
| Maras Salt Mines entrance | about S/20 | Maras Moray |
| Huaypo Lagoon entrance | about S/3–5 | Huaypo Lagoon |
| Rainbow Mountain community entrance | about S/25 | Rainbow Mountain |
| Red Valley | about S/20–30 | Rainbow Mountain, optional |
| Horse on the final stretch | agreed with the horseman | Rainbow Mountain, optional |
| Tip for your guide | your choice | All |
Entrance fees are set by the communities and the authorities, not by us, and they can change. The Tourist Ticket in particular confuses people; our guide to the Cusco Tourist Ticket explains which version you need, and the official rates are on the COSITUC website.
Tipping is never required. If your guide made the day, a tip in soles at the end is appreciated.
Why prices vary so much between operators
Every ATV tour Cusco price you’ll see online is built from the same few pieces. When two numbers look very different, it’s almost always one of these.
What’s included
Pickup, meals, fuel, helmet and gloves. Some low prices are for “ATV time” only: you get yourself to the base, and fuel or equipment is added later.
Your own ATV or a shared one
Some cheaper listings put two people on one ATV by default. With us you choose at the base, but elsewhere it’s worth asking before you pay.
Group size
A group of 20 with one guide is cheaper to run than a group of 8. You’ll feel the difference on the practice run and at every stop.
Route and length
Rainbow Mountain costs more than Maras Moray because it’s a 12–14 hour day, with more fuel, two meals, more guide time and oxygen on board.
The vehicles themselves
This is the hardest thing to see in a listing and the one that matters most. Well-maintained ATVs and trained guides cost money. If a price is far below everyone else’s for the same route, ask why.

Five questions to ask before you book anywhere
- Is hotel pickup included, or do I need to get to the base?
- Does every rider get their own ATV, or is sharing the default?
- How many riders per guide?
- Is there a practice run before the real ride?
- Which entrance fees will I pay on the day, and roughly how much?
A good operator answers all five in one message. Our own answers are on the safety standards page.
Private vs shared: is the extra worth it?
For two people on Maras Moray, private costs $55 each instead of $38. What you get for the difference is your own start time, your own pace and nobody else in the group. For most couples, the shared tour is the better value. For a family with a nervous first-timer, or friends with very different fitness on Rainbow Mountain, the private tour is often worth it. We compare both formats in detail in private vs group ATV tours.
A sample budget for one week
One traveller doing two of our routes on shared tours:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Maras, Moray & Salt Mines | $38 |
| Cusco Tourist Ticket, partial (covers Moray) | S/70 |
| Maras Salt Mines entrance | about S/20 |
| Rainbow Mountain | $80 |
| Rainbow Mountain entrance | about S/25 |
| Total | $118 plus about S/115 in cash |
Add a tip if you’d like to, and snacks for the drive. If you’ll be visiting other Sacred Valley sites that week, the full Tourist Ticket at S/130 usually works out cheaper than two partial ones.
