Why This Tour Is Different From Our Other Routes
If Rainbow Mountain is about adrenaline and Maras Moray is about culture, Huaypo Lagoon is about scenery without the rush. The route winds through the Anta Province β past Inca terraces at Zurite, the colonial town of Huarocondo, and small Andean farming communities β before arriving at Huaypo Lagoon: a calm, mountain-ringed body of water that most Sacred Valley bus tours never get close to.
We build in real time at the lagoon, not a five-minute photo stop squeezed between bus transfers β a common complaint we’ve seen about rushed versions of this tour elsewhere. Many itineraries extend the day with a stop at the Maras Salt Mines on the way back, giving you two very different landscapes in one afternoon.
Great fit if you:
- Want a lower-key ATV experience than Rainbow Mountain or the full Sacred Valley circuit
- Are traveling with older kids or teens comfortable on a vehicle
- Prioritize photography and scenery over adrenaline
- Want to combine two Sacred Valley highlights (lagoon + salt mines) without a full-day commitment

Safety & Altitude
Huaypo Lagoon sits close to Cusco’s own altitude, so this is a comfortable option even early in your trip. As always: no ATV experience required, supervised practice before the real route, and a guide with the group throughout. Sun exposure is strong at this elevation even on cool mornings β sunscreen matters more than it seems like it should.

Best Time to Go
Runs comfortably year-round. Dry season (MayβOctober) gives the clearest mountain reflections in the lagoon; rainy season (NovemberβApril) brings greener surrounding farmland, though the water can look less crystalline on overcast days.
